This was my project for my Material, Techniques & Presentation Media class, in which we focused on showcasing specific experiences of protecting the body. Through the semester I interviewed a number of neurodivergent individuals who struggle with sensory sensitivities in what materials cause them discomfort, in what ways they experience that discomfort, and how they may deal with it. I then illustrated the struggles they feel during those negative experiences, as well as the solutions given according to the interviewees. For the project showcase, I chose to present them next to a container of the materials they represented, each discomfort paired with a solution. For these illustrations a lot of attention was paid to exaggerating shapes, colors and textures, so as to communicate the sensory discomforts to viewers who may not similarly struggle with sensory issues, calling them to empathize.
